I
always like to have the latest of the
Otter Lake
mystery series on the top my book pile. Episodes combine a good suspenseful plot with a refreshing sense of humor in the writing. A touch of romance as well as out-loud laughter awaits readers after turning to the first page.
G
hostly stories have been told about a mysterious figure, known as the Apple Witch, for many years around Otter Lake camp fires. Tall tales, with few facts to back them up. Our heroine, Erica Bloom, loves the Fall with its changing leaves, apple cider, cozy sweaters - and a warming relationship between herself and Sheriff Grady Forrester.
H
owever her feeling of complacency disappears when a boot (buried, obviously, for years) is discovered in the woods in a state park. No problem, right? Well, foot bones are found in that boot. The bones are thought to belong to a scandalous figure who dropped from sight many years prior to unearthing the bones in the boot.
N
ow all hands are on deck to scour the woods, looking for the rest of this individual's clothes and bones. Sightings of spooky figures roaming the woods spur more tales of the Apple Witch. The Otter Lake security team go all out to find a supposed murder victim.
H
aunted Hayride with Murder
is a satisfying read with guaranteed chuckles, and makes a fascinating addition to the
Otter Lake
series.
