On Halloween night, Gemma visits an old friend, retired Judge Caleb Montgomery, at his law office. She narrowly misses the explosion of Montgomery's office right after she leaves him. Caleb was celebrated within the justice system. Who would do such a thing? Turns out the Judge had received many threatening letters but had thought them simply rants, and that nothing would come of them. How wrong he was. Gemma and her team of detectives resolve to find who killed the popular judge. While pursuing the elusive perp, Gemma visits the Bella Vista Penitentiary to talk to a killer imprisoned there. Her time spent with him brings no clues to light. But murders continue, leaving Gemma and her crew baffled. Whatever you do, be sure to obtain a copy of Shatter the Night and revel in its fine writing and tightly written plot.
