Andrea believes she knows her mother through and through. Laura is a stable and compassionate woman, more than willing to help those in need in the beachside community of Belle Isle. Andrea and Laura are very close. Then, when a trip to a nearby mall explodes in gun shots, Laura immediately takes charge while Andrea is frozen in fear. Laura efficiently and brutally stops the killer, and a video of her actions goes viral. There's more violence and Laura orders Andy to take flight, with no explanation except that she is in great danger, but with detailed instructions on where to go first. Andy traverses the country, trying to understand what has happened and why - and who her mother really is. As readers follow the trail along with Andy, pieces of Laura's past life gradually come to light. Pieces of Her will grab hold of you in the first chapter, making it hard to put this novel down. As a reader, you will begin to wonder what you might have done in the situations in which Laura found herself. The same goes for Andy's questioning her mother's past. Would you have followed your mother's instructions? Or made some different decisions? Pieces of Her is an excellent and gripping read, if you can handle the occasional bloodletting, and plenty of violence.
