I
n a new mystery novel by Antonio Manzini, Deputy Police Chief Rocco Schiavone works hard to solve a riveting case.
Out of Season
is the third in this captivating series, translated from the Italian by Antony Shugaar. This international bestseller is set in the Italian Alps.
S
chiavone is faced with the most perplexing case so far in his career. A girl's kidnapping occurs and almost immediately goes wrong. He doesn't know it at the time, but a horrific accident takes two kidnappers out of the picture, leaving the poor victim tied up in a lonely and dark basement.
R
eaders join the girl in her plight while the Deputy Police Chief tries to follow the trail of the idiots who kidnapped her and then died in an accident that never should have happened.
A
s time passes, Schiavone finds himself in a heated romance, and fighting a cold and bleak snowstorm. There's a prison break and a case of mistaken identity. He knows why he was sent to this godforsaken place but he doesn't have to like it. His manner in handling all this is not in the police manual. Though not good for his career, this adds a delightful insight into his personality.
W
hile the kidnapped girl struggles with her bindings, the Chief gets closer and closer to discovering the basement where she had been left in the bitter cold. Author Manzini has two previous novels in this delightfully readable series –
Black Run
and
Adam's Rib
.
