ould that a business like the Cat Café were in my neighborhood. My twin great-granddaughters are both allergic to cats among many other things. So I don't have a cat. It would be lovely to go to the Café and play with a cat for an hour or so.
S
uch is the setup in
Purrder She Wrote
by Cate Conte. Proprietor Maddie James has moved cross-country to the New England coast to open her new business. From the opening day, customers have been making appointments to play with a cat.
M
addie offers rescue cats to cuddle or adopt. Looks like she's got a good thing going until one of the island's crotchety, trouble making residents is found dead. Murdered!
O
f course, the police move right into the crime scene. No one seems to be above suspicion. A volunteer at the Cat Café is arrested and the whole island is chock full of gossip and theories as to why the extremely unpleasant woman was killed and who is responsible for her death.
T
his does not bode well for the new business in town. Maddie determines to solve this crime herself, much to the chagrin of the local constabulary.
T
o my mind, Maddie has a good thing going.
Purrder She Wrote
is a delightful contribution to beach reading. And a darn good mystery. It is the second of the series starring Maddie and her very own cat, JJ.
