eneva Chase has moved back to her home town to restart her life. She is a newspaper reporter as well as being a working alcoholic. Hard to live with either choice, let alone both.

he also parents a teenage girl, for whom she is responsible. Geneva has managed to give her ward the time the girl needs as she sniffs out the latest
breaking news
for her employer's failing newspaper. Two big stories don't seem related. Leave it to Geneva to ferret out information that might make a connection between an abused woman who made a human torch of her husband and the fifteen year-old student who has disappeared at the same time that her English teacher also went missing!

he abused wife carries the signs of her mistreatment visibly. There is no sign of the young girl or her teacher. While this is going on, Geneva fights her love of vodka while she openly works to find answers to the disappearances. Geneva soon realizes she is being followed. But dark nights with dark trucks on her tail don't deter her from researching her story.

he also finds herself tempted to give her last romance another try. But it is hard to commit after having lost the man of her dreams - no other man can replace the one who died and left her with his daughter to raise. The ending of this mystery is not to be missed. But don't you dare peek and ruin a really good plot.
