Cave of Bones is Anne Hillerman's third Leaphorn, Chee & Manuelito novel, that also features Navajo traditions and the landscape of the desert Southwest. Hard to resist.

Tribal Officer Bernadette Manuelito expects to speak at an outdoor program for at-risk teens, and instead walks into chaos. One of the girls participating in the all night program has gotten lost in the lava wilderness bordering a Navajo reservation! On top of that, one of the instructors has disappeared!!

While Cave of Bones has been written to sweep readers into Navajo lore, it also lures them into a mystery that involves so much more than missing people. While trying to find them (the girl shows up back at the camp alone), Officer Manuelito deals with a blizzard, a suspicious drowning and a new FBI agent who complicates the investigation.

While Bernadette is determined to find the missing instructor, her husband (Sergeant Jim Chee) has more trouble than he wishes to handle back at home, involving Bernadette's sister Darleen. He is a one-time medicine man in training and wants nothing to do with Darleen but she seems determined to mess up her life as well as his.

Anne Hillerman, an award-winning reporter and the author of several non-fiction books, is also the daughter of New York Times bestselling author Tony Hillerman. I have enjoyed Tony Hillerman's many books about the Navajo and am thrilled that the stories of those people will continue with Anne Hillerman. She is a captivating author.
