uthor Ellen Hart was awarded Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America in 2017. What is most amazing is that she is now the author of twenty-fice novels in the Jane Lawless series! Jane is a lesbian, as is the author, who is also a Lambda and Minnesota Book award winner.

ritt Ickles was sure she played with her cousin Timmy when she was a child. After years of no communication with Timmy's family, she drops in on them and asks for Timmy. When she is told that there is not a Timmy in the family and never has been, she engages Jane Lawless, in her capacity of Private Investigator, to discover why she is being lied to. She knows she played with a boy cousin named Timmy.

hen the family's barn burns down, bones are found in a root cellar. Britt presumes this must be where Timmy ended up. And her old aunts want to cover up his disappearance. One of the aunts dies suddenly and her death is thought to be a suicide. Why would she kill herself? Guilty conscience?
T
hough I came across a number of typos that were disconcerting in this well-plotted mystery novel, I do like Jane Lawless. This is my first read of Ellen Hart's work. I don't know how I missed the earlier mysteries. Shall have to correct that.
