The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn is being touted as the 'most widely acquired debut novel of all time.' It is claimed that 'the author crafts a tightly coiled tale that will keep fans of the genre guessing. A riveting and mature first novel that stands out in a crowded genre.'

Wow! Hard to beat those words. So I won't try. Thirty-eight year old Anna Fox was once a highly respected child psychologist, but now lives alone and is unable to go outside the confines of her home. She has developed an unhealthy love for Merlot wine and pops pills on a regular basis.

Anna often entertains herself by using her camera as binoculars. She spies on neighbors who have recently moved into the house next door. In so doing, she witnesses a woman being stabbed to death. She is unable to convince police of what she saw. Knowing her lifestyle, they find it hard to believe her.

Trying to investigate the crime she is sure she saw proves virtually impossible. However she befriends the teenager next door and convinces him to spy on his own family. Suspense builds as readers learn more of Anna's background. Anna is starting to believe she is losing her mind. Is she? Or is someone taking advantage of her vulnerability for their own perverted reasons?

Apparently, this debut novel was fought over by a variety of publishers. I can understand why.
