Here's an exciting, action-packed dystopian, set in the Canadian Yukon and starring a brave young heroine, Gwendolynn McBride. Her family fled Eagle, Alaska to this remote location after civilization was destroyed by nuclear war and a weaponized flu. Before that, they were in Chicago where her father worked as a biologist. They left Chicago in a hurry after something bad went down at his work. Seven years later, Lynn is twenty-three, and her father is dead.

Lynn lives in a small settlement of rough log cabins with her mother, her uncle Jeryl, her brother Ken, and Ramsey (son of Jeryl's best friend). They grow their own crops, and hunt and fish for food. Out hunting one day, Lynn meets a man and a dog, who came from the South. She invites Jax and Wolf to eat with the family, and her mother treats a wound in his leg. Time passes and so-called traders show up, seeking Jax. He kills them, with incredible speed - what is he?

Jax tells them that the men were with Disease Containment and Immunity Advancement (DICA), that he was part of their research, and that more will come. He leaves, tracked by Jeryl. Lynn follows and is captured. She discovers how ruthless DICA is, and learns what her father did for her before he died. She escapes and her family and Jax fight back. Then Lynn decides that she has to finish what her father started. Will she have to do it on her own?

What a thrilling read. I really hope this is the first in a series as I need to know what happens next!
