ick Cahill has a problem with memories of his father. When he finds himself unlocking secrets of his father's firing from the local police department, he has trouble connecting the man with whom he spent his early years - the father he was so very proud of, the policeman who was well known as a good cop - with the drunk he became. A cop who turned dirty and was fired in disgrace. A man who died a drunk. How does one live with that?

ahill is approached by the woman he loved – who married someone else – to find if her husband is having an affair! How does one cope with that? He still loves her. But he takes on the job.

ne thing leads to another and he finds himself involved with more than he had anticipated. Killers, who will do anything to protect their secrets, make their appearance. Can Rick keep risking his life – and possibly hers - to follow her husband who probably is having an affair? When Rick's investigation turns out differently, he has trouble keeping on the job he has contracted to do.

ick has a dim hope that his love will turn her heart back to him. Can that happen? Before he gives up hope, he comes across a box of his father's that may explain his dad's fall from grace.
