Warshawski doesn't really like her Aunt Rosa. The woman cannot stand V.I. because she was born out of wedlock! As if that were V.I.'s fault. Rosa is an old school Italian who believes in casting blame to the winds and wherever it falls gets Rosa's scorn. But Rosa overlooks her vilification of V.I. when she needs help. Rosa hasn't yet been accused of stealing a bundle of shares of stock that proved to be counterfeit from a church safe. But she happens to keep the books for this church and knows she will be accused eventually. As V.I. is trying to help the old bat clear her name, the original stock is returned and the counterfeit shares disappear. V. I. just can't drop the case there, and determines to discover why the original shares were stolen and then returned. V.I. also meets a potential new flame, who looks promising. As always, Sara Paretsky has written a top-notch mystery with a great plot and exciting characters. I enjoy her subtle humor. Killing Orders happens to be the third in this excellent, long-running series.
