urgundy: Twisted Roots
is the third in Jane Hubbard's
Vengeance in the Vineyard
mystery series; the first two being
Champagne: The Farewell
and
Bordeaux: The Bitter Finish
. Series leads are NYPD officer Max Maguire, daughter of a Frenchwoman and a NY cop, and examining magistrate Olivier Chaumon. They are together once more, over murder.

ach of the three episodes is as good as the other two. I find
Burgundy: Twisted Roots
a true treasure trove of wines that the characters sip and savor. I learned a few new tips on the making of fine wines and of the growing of the vines that produce the grapes used to make the wines that - oh, you've got the idea!

nd, speaking of characters – we are reintroduced to the various players from the first two books. Somehow these people slip onto the pages without fanfare, but fulfill their parts well in the intriguing plot. Bodies are added to the script with subtle hints as to who is responsible for turning some of these living creatures into dead ones.
A
ll is not doom and gloom though. Happy times are also depicted. The wedding scene will make you wish you could repeat your own and incorporate the foods and decorations so aptly described. The food is to die for – but no one does. Another hit for author Jane Hubbard.
