exter Vega, jobless, is hired to find a missing girl who is believed to be in Mexico doing research on an endangered amphibian. Glad of a paying job, Dexter flies to Mexico and starts the search.

e has another motive for getting out of town in a hurry. The wealthy retiree who hired him to find his daughter has been murdered with a weapon that has Dexter's fingerprints all over it. (This weapon is not one that would turn up in many cases of murder. If any!) That would make anyone turn tail and run. He hopes to find the girl so she can help him uncover the murderer and take Dexter off the suspect's list.
T
he Last Girl
by Danny Lopez not only provides a good story but also brings the problem of endangered species to the forefront. I like Dexter; he's a good strong character who will do whatever needs to be done to earn his pay. I also enjoyed the time Dexter spends in Mexico. Never been there.
T
he Last Girl
is the first in what I hope will become a series. With an engaging writer and a top-notch publisher, I think that will happen.
