Some Kind of Hero is the nineteenth in Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters novels, which attests to the series popularity. Though I haven't read a great deal of her work (and so missed the back stories of many of the actors in this drama), those that I have read are consummate romances. This one fits the bill as well.

Lieutenant Peter Greene (with neon blue eyes and a 'perfect butt') trains SEAL wannabes. You'd think he could handle anything. But he's just taken on the care of a fifteen-year-old daughter. Her mother (who left when their child was a year old and refused to allow him contact with his daughter) recently died in a car accident and Maddie's a bundle of trouble.

Now she's fled the coop. Peter flags down romance writer Shayla Whitman (who has two teen boys of her own and frequently consults an invisible friend for advice) outside their children's high school. Following the car that Maddie had left in is just the beginning of their quest together.

When they finally get to the car, it holds only Dingo and his buddy Daryl, who claim to know nothing of Maddie. As they keep searching (soon pulling in Peter's SEAL friends to help), readers share Maddie's further adventures with Dingo, who's actually helping her escape from drug dealers. They've been sold a bill of goods by Maddie's psychotic ex-friend Fiona.

Not surprisingly, violence ensues on several fronts, but Shayla and Peter persist in their search, and their anticipated romance catches fire. Along the way, she helps him work out how to reach out to his estranged daughter, and share with her what she has always meant to him. As always Suzanne Brockmann delivers a highly entertaining, action-packed, sizzling romance in Some Kind of Hero.
