Ex-cop Nick Miller runs a small, very much under the radar team that provides new identities and new lives for people who are at high risk, and whom the police are unable to protect. Why does he do it? He's in the same position himself and has lived under several assumed identities, since his family home was burned down and his wife and daughter murdered on the orders of crime lord Connor Lane

This novel is reminiscent of the Bourne thrillers. After Miller and his associates (Becca and Hanson) save Kate Sutherland (a lawyer under police protection on the Isle of Man) from Lane's assassins and teach her to assume a new identity, others of Lane's minions tear across Europe seeking information on him from previous clients - and torturing and killing to get it.

On the other side of the law, readers meet DS Jennifer Lloyd, seconded to the UK Protected Persons Service. Lloyd is convinced that Miller killed his wife and seeks to prove it. Since he used to work in the Service, she's unpopular with his ex-colleagues. And someone in the organization is selling information to Connor Lane - is it the observant DS Lloyd or another?

As Miller learns that his clients are being compromised, he and his associates race to save them, resulting in a series of violent encounters. And he and Kate grow ever closer until she learns an important secret he's been keeping from her about his past. Long Time Lost is an exciting, fast-paced read that would make an action-packed movie.
