L
ittle Lamb Lost
by Margaret Fenton was the first of the author's mysteries. This sequel –
Little Girl Gone
– is sure to earn the acclaim that
Little Lamb
did. And rightly so. It is every bit as compelling, suspenseful, and downright good reading.
S
ocial worker Claire Conover discovers a thirteen-year-old girl sleeping behind a grocery store, The complacency that Claire is feeling at the start of another school year shatters. Is the child a runaway? A victim of abuse? When Claire tries to take the girl into custody, the youngster runs off.
T
he girl's mother is found murdered. Could the teen have shot her mother? If not, what happened? As Claire seeks help for the girl, she realizes that things are not what they seem. Claire is sure it is imperative to find the youngster and then to discover why the child keeps running.
I
loved the tightly written plot. And the characters! Wow! I do hope to meet them in Fenton's next novel. If she chooses however not to carry them forward and creates new players, that works for me also.
