esse Sutherlin survived World War I, ending his service as an officer. He knew he was considered a
hillbilly
by his fellow soldiers. He was from Buffalo Mountain and only too glad to arrive back home to take his place again in his family. In the mountains, the residents took care of each other and brooked no interference from authorities like police, doctors and the like.
U
nfortunately, a member of Jesse's clan was murdered while working at the family's illegal still. Unless cooler heads prevail, a war between two families that have never gotten along could break out, leaving dead bodies and heartbroken kin on the mountain - rather like the infamous Hatfield and McCoy feud years back. Jesse realizes immediately that he needs to step up to uncover who fired the first shot. Nothing is ever accomplished by the blast of a shotgun. Only heartbreak and grieving.

uthor Ramsay is a retired Episcopal priest, Medical School Faculty member, and writes his very popular mysteries in Arizona, giving him many opportunities to use his lifetime experiences to write of what he knows. He does that well.
