At first, when Patrick Dielman walks into a Texas police station and tells Detective Jo Larsen that he wants to report that his wife, Jenny, is missing, the police immediately assume the wife might have been a restless housewife who got bored with the routine of taking care of a house and a demanding husband, and simply walked away.

As time passes with no sighting of his wife, Dielman is distraught. The police learn that Jenny had been married previously but that this marriage dissolved after the death of the couple's young son.

As Larsen learns more about Dielman, she surmises that he is not a better match than Jenny's first husband who was intent on controlling just about everything in Jenny's life. Jenny had not recovered from the death of her young son and showed no signs of improvement even though seeing a psychologist.

Larsen thinks there might be another reason for Jenny's disappearance. Foul play! Maybe the woman was murdered and they hadn't found her body yet. Either of Jenny's two husbands was of the temperament to lose their tempers and do away with the unhappy woman.

Walk Into Silence is a sad tale expertly told. Having lost a son, I could identify with Jenny. She couldn't shake her grief. Her son died while being cared for by her first husband his story of the boy falling from a tree house didn't sit well with her.
