ongmire fans will not want to miss Craig Johnson's
An Obvious Fact
, which introduces a femme fatale from Henry Standing Bear's past at the largest motorcycle rally in the world in Hulett, Wyoming, where Walt and Henry are on vacation. Aside from racing, the Cheyenne Nation spends a lot of his time reading - and quoting from - Sherlock Holmes.
A
s always, Walt finds something to investigate. In fact a local deputy (nicknamed
Deputy Dog
) had asked for his help looking into a hit-and-run that left young Bodaway Torres in a coma. Torres is a
big deal
member of the Tre Tre Nomads motorcycle gang, whose enforcer has been leaning on the deputy, demanding answers. Torres is also the son of Henry Standing Bear's old flame,
the
Lola after whom he named his car, and Walt his granddaughter. Henry warns Walt that she's a manipulator and that '
Not all fair maidens are worthy of rescue
'.
O
f course Walt's feisty young under-sheriff (and lover) Victoria Moretti shows up and joins in both the fun and the action. There's an ATF undercover agent tracking illegal guns; a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected behemoth donated by the feds (the chief of police has no clue how to turn it on); and the race to develop a completely metal-less gun from advanced synthetic polymers. Of course, Walt sorts it all out, but it's the journey that counts in this series much more than the destination. Excellent as always!
