Bobbi Logan is a transgender woman who has worked hard to build her business and now owns and operates one of Chicago's most posh hair salons. But not all is sweetness and light.

Her ex-wife is experiencing a great tragedy and a determined and hateful police detective is working on a cold case that could put Bobbi away for a good many years. Bobbi is a very compassionate woman and tries to treat everyone with kindness. But the recent recession has hit her business very hard and she is in danger of going bankrupt. Her friends rally around her but is their help enough? She needs some hugs as well as new financing.

A Kind of Justice by Renee James is written by a transgender woman. James has Bobbi speak for her about what life is like as a transgender. It cannot be easy. But neither can living in a body you weren't meant to have. As Bobbi works through her daily life, she shows us what a typical day could be like. Being a transgender is not as simple as changing your hair color.

Renee James is a pen name for a Vietnam veteran, licensed hairdresser, a decorated magazine editor and writer. Her first novel was award-winning. A Kind of Justice should bring her even more accolades. I am acquainted with a transgender woman. She has just lost her husband. How hard that must be. To lose the one person in the world who understands you and loves you. And now you are left to face the world on your own. That takes courage. It would also take great courage to take the steps to change your gender.

A Kind of Justice is a book we should all read to help us to understand the transgender world. And to accept it.
