find it hard to believe that I missed one of Alexander McCall Smith's wonderful, enchanting Botswana stories about Precious Mamotswe and her

his series is not to be missed. McCall's imagination runs away with him as he produces tales of a forward thinking Precious who sees needs and fulfills them. We learn of the workings of a small village and those who inhabit it. Like everyone else in this poor old world, the people of a small African village have disputes and need help solving their problems. Precious is the one they go to, aided by Mma Grace Makutsi who has now risen to the rank of Associate Detective. The two women begin to see how much they mean to each other now that Mma Makutsi has married and become a mother.
A
s well as providing us with delightful reading, McCall dips into his own store of knowledge of the human race and offers his readers good advice on the things we all should know in our dealings with family and friends. He does this with grace and clarity.
P
recious's story begins with
# No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
and continues through many volumes. Start your reading with the first and then work your way through. Precious's life was made into a television series and McCall has many other series just as engrossing as this one.
