About an hour from Chicago in a small lakeside community, Alex Gallo works in a café to support himself and his alcoholic father. When a beautiful woman about ten years his senior enters the café one day, the eighteen year old boy is attracted to the stranger. But what begins as just a crush turns into something more serious and sinister with the passing days.

How these seemingly unconnected events are linked make up the plot of this novel, told in alternating chapters narrated by Quinn and Alex.
