as the sixth in Paul Doiron's stellar series starring Maine game warden Mike Bowditch. After working for a while as a fishing guide, Mike has been reinstated as a ranger and is trying to toe the line more than he did as a rookie. He's also in a relationship with Stacey Stevens, a biologist with Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and a pilot.

n fact they are beginning a romantic weekend together when Mike is recalled to help with an urgent search and rescue operation. Two college friends, Samantha and Missy, who hiked together from Georgia to Maine, have gone missing in the Hundred Mile Wilderness. Concern over their fate pulls readers through the story alongside Mike Bowditch. And, of course, Stacey gets in on the action - and into plenty of trouble - as well.

ike wonders why an FBI agent is interested in missing hikers and learns that a serial predator might be involved. But a story starts to circulate about coyote attacks - could this be true? Mike has several run-ins with members of a roughneck family, the Dows, who have intimidated the entire community around them. He wonders if they might be involved.

here is a great deal of violence, and several deaths, before it's all over.
The Precipice
is another grueling, gripping read from Paul Doiron, whose stories bring the Maine wilderness to life around the reader.
