Rosemary and Crime

Spice Shop
mystery series.
I
t has all the usual ingredients for a charming cozy. Piper Prescott is a likable lead in a love triangle - while she is in a relationship with local vet Doug Winters, she's also attracted to police chief Wyatt McBride, with whom she's often in conflict. She has a vivacious BFF (Reba Mae) as a partner in crime; an ex, CJ, now remarried to former beauty queen Amber (both easy to despise), and a lively teen daughter, Lindsey.
T
he novel opens on Oktoberfest at Brandywine Creek. Piper's former mother-in-law Melly is a geek, with whom she's on good terms. Melly has had a hard to refuse offer from Rusty Tulley and Chip Balboa for point-of-sale software she developed. They show up soon to seal the deal. Melly's on a high until she finds Chip dead at the bottom of her basement stairs - she calls Piper immediately. Melly becomes McBride's chief suspect and, of course, loyal Piper is immediately up in arms, ready to do what it takes to clear her ex's mom.

is cozy as they come and tons of fun. This time around Piper's relationship with Doug cools down while her attraction to Wyatt heats up. Lindsey gets a boyfriend too. And if reading about what the characters munch throughout the book gives you an appetite, try the recipes for
Gingersnaps
,
Sauerbraten
and
Lebkuchen
at the back.
