his is where the unforgiving, hateful human element comes into the story. People are so unpredictable – and so malicious. A blog is set up that describes Rachel as a mother who does not take proper care of that precious son of hers. She doesn't deserve him. Her very home is painted with slogans depicting her as an indifferent mother – A BAD MOTHER. News articles denounce her! And all the while, she is living in an atmosphere of fear for her son's wellbeing.

here can he be? Is he being taken care of? What is he being told about where she is? Is he even alive? Pure torture for a mother to go through. Her ex-husband and his new wife suffer with her.

hat She Knew
by Gilly MacMillan is a study in psychological tension, that also addresses the outpouring of hate that is directed to Rachel. Hard to believe that people can be so crass, so vindictive. Little sympathy for the mother who has just lost her little boy – maybe never to see him again. Though hard to read, it engages our sympathy for Rachel.
What She Knew
is a real winner.
