Erica Sparks is a reporter on the rise. She's ambitious and willing to work hard with long hours. What slips her into her dream job is that she has caught the attention of the owner of the Global News Network. Because of her workload, she is forced to leave her eight year-old daughter Jenny in the custody of her ex-husband.

She leaves behind the reputation of drinking to excess. Erica has been sober for over two years. Though not looking for a relationship until she is more secure in her job, she finds herself becoming attached to her new producer.

They must not let anyone at the Network know as their relationship would be frowned upon. They also must deal with the extremely wealthy owner who will make anything happen that he wants to happen. He loves to see people in physical and mental pain. When Erica is on the spot when tragedy occurs more than once, she begins to suspect that something is out of kilter.

The Newsmakers by Lis Wiehl has a great plot with believable characters. Okay, maybe the owner of the Network is a little off base. Well, maybe more than a little. This novel also allows us behind the scenes of what a network news show must go through before air time. I've often wondered. This is a well-written novel with many twists and turns. Good reading.
