he Flying Dragon
is a debut novel by Georges Ugeux. Protagonist Victoria Leung is a senior detective at Pegasus in Hong Kong. An accomplished investigator, she is given the task to discover why a banker went out a window over twenty stories up – suicide or murder?
W
hat she uncovers doesn't surprise her. But she needs to prove her contention that the man would never have killed himself. To dig into his background, she must enter the financial world. She finds it more convoluted than she had anticipated. Descriptions of the financial dealings of both Hong Kong and mainland China are brought into the plot.
T
hese dealings left me in the dust. My mind is not geared to financial affairs. If you are, you will, I'm sure, enjoy this part of the novel. I found descriptions of the scenes and characters sadly lacking. It was hard to imagine the action without visuals to guide the reader. However, the plot of
The Flying Dragon
is a strong one and dialogue carries the story along very well.
