A
drenaline
by John Benedict is a medical thriller. Anesthesiologist protagonist Doug Landry is faced with the bad dream of every anesthesiologist – the death of a patient while he is in attendance!
U
nable to come to grips with this tragedy, he blames himself. Then he becomes aware that this is not that unusual an occurrence at Mercy Hospital where he practices. What in God's name is happening? Doug begins snooping around and is soon sure that money is being mismanaged at Mercy. By whom? And what can he do about it?
H
is speculation puts him in danger of his life – however he can't let this slip by. The more he delves into the workings of the hospital, the more he is convinced that someone is draining its coffers dry - and the more he realizes that he must watch his back.
T
he dénouement of this tense thriller will make you feel more and more uncomfortable alone in the dark. And also maybe make you think very carefully about entering a hospital.
Adrenaline
is well worth a read although I found some of the medical facts a trifle opaque.
J
ohn Benedict is also the author of
The Edge of Death
and
Fatal Complications
– both also well worth a read. He works as an anesthesiologist in Harrisburg, PA. I do hope his stories come from his imagination and not from his own cases!
