va Richland's life of crime was launched in Arizona when she killed Amos Warren and framed his apprentice for the crime. That was in 1970 and now the woman has built a very successful crime network that is constructed around smuggling everything from artifacts to drugs across the Mexican border. And, when necessary, Ava has resorted to murder to keep her enterprise secure from prying eyes.
U
nfortunately, the woman has made one small mistake. She left a body in Seattle and now J.P. Beaumont is on the case. When Beaumont gets a call from Sheriff Walker the two realize they can merge their investigations and the result means Ava Richland's carefully constructed crime organization is in jeopardy.
A
s the investigation closes in on Richland, the son of a tribal leader of the Tohono O'Odham tribe is kidnapped. The boy had some valuable gems Richland planned to market and he becomes a pawn in the cat-and-mouse game between the law and Richland.
I
f you have enjoyed following these two law enforcement stalwarts in their respective series, you'll love this adventure that allows them to pool their expertise. This is J.A. Jance at her best and, as her many fans know, when she is at the top of her game, she is really good!
