As with so many stories, a series of secrets are at the core of this one set in Spain's Basque country. Five years have passed since the kidnapping and murder of a local politician. The man's convicted killer sits behind bars and that should be the end of the tragic event. But is it? Of course not! When Iker Abarzuza, the gunman, receives a letter from the dead politician's widow, he is surprised to say the least. Marianna Torres revisits a time months before the murder and an indiscretion she wants to clear from her conscience. I'll let the author provide all the details, but Iker, Marianna and an American teacher who has lived in the village for decades are the principal players in this sordid little drama. Told in three voices and inspired by a true story, this is a tale of a political crime that is a little more complex than just taking sides in a regional struggle. All That Followed marks Gabriel Urza's debut and this atmospheric and riveting novel about the complexity of relationships and politics makes for a very intriguing read.
