F
rank and Judy are quite a pair. Meeting during World War II, Frank and Judy became inseparable and formed a strong bond that saw them through the most difficult times.
No Better Friend
tells the story of the flight technician and the dog, a purebred pointer.
J
udy, living with POWs at an internment camp in the Pacific, would bark at the captors, quite literally getting in between them and the prisoners - and risked her own life in doing so. This heroic dog also would help the POWs find fresh water and would even alert them to impending danger, whether it be from a guard or crocodile.
O
ne prisoner in particular captured Judy's attention and affections and that prisoner was Frank Williams. The two lived together until Judy's death in 1950, a horrific situation bringing forth an unbreakable bond.
T
o date, Judy is the only war dog to be a canine POW. This heartwarming yet gut wrenching tale of a soldier and his war dog is one that continues to this day. War dogs are still in service, in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
I
have read many stories of the trials and tribulations of war dogs and their people and I must admit I found this story particularly touching. Two souls tortured by war were able to find each other and provide a love and deep bond at a time when it was most needed.
