Such was the case with Every Fifteen Minutes. Scottoline writes of a psychiatrist who is chief of the Psychiatric Unit of a Philadelphia hospital. He has a dilemma as troubling as the patient he is treating. The boy he is trying to help (to drop the compulsive-obsessive movement of tapping his forehead every fifteen minutes) has a crush on a girl and the doctor is worried that his patient will harm the girl. But what his patients reveal to him during sessions must be kept highly confidential. However, he can report to authorities someone whom he feels is potentially dangerous. Should he? Or shouldn't he? Before he can do so, though, he becomes embroiled in a storm raised by a sociopath determined to destroy his practice, his family and his life! As always, this author slowly brings her story line from a nice little plot that quickly rages to the height of suspense. Each page had me on edge, suspense keeping me holding my breath. The sociopath is unknown to the psychiatrist. How does one do battle with the unknown? And why must he? Looks like the disturbed person holds the upper hand. Can the doctor turn things around? Obtain a copy of Every Fifteen Minutes and find out. I always enjoy Scottoline's books, both her good mysteries and her non-fiction, including My Third Husband Will Be a Dog and I Don't Have an Empty Nest, I Just Have More Closet Space. She is noted for the humor in her books and column in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I also like that she writes about the area I grew up in – the Philadelphia suburbs. She brings joy into my life.
