etween the Living and the Dead
is the 22nd in Bill Crider's Dan Rhodes series. This book is just as fresh and new as the first and all the others in between.
D
an Rhodes is Sheriff of the small town of Clearview, Texas. Seems as though Dan would have a hard enough time calming down his office staff without also having to fight crime. Hack and Lawton are forever feuding, but Dan has learned the hard way not to step in between the verbal arrows they fling at each other.
D
an has a friend named Seepy (C. P.), who is just a trifle different. Seepy's latest idea is to start a ghost busting business and he wants Dan to be a part of what he feels will be a great business venture. Dan declines.
D
an is called out one night to check a report of a gun being fired at what is considered by the residents of Clearview to be a haunted house. Thinking the call will be just about a couple of kids wanting a good scare, he responds only to find a body. Later, he chases cousins of the dead man, one of whom is trampled by wild pigs. Then Dan finds a skeleton in a closet at the same house.
A
uthor Crider has a wonderful sense of humor and isn't afraid to use it in a mystery novel. The mystery is pretty good also.
