on the History network you may want to read this book. Like the series is covers the early years of the Texas Republic as well as the early history of the legendary Texas Rangers.

ou'll follow the tale of the Texas Revolution from its outset and read about the role the famed Texas Rangers played in the event. From the beginning of the rebellion through the fall of the Alamo and slaughter at San Jacinto to Lamar's Cherokee War of extinction and the development of a new nation, the author relates the gripping story of this violent chapter of western history.

his volume is well illustrated with sixteen pages of pictures and photos, plus additional maps. Moore devotes a lot of time to on all the people who played a role in this period of Texas history so there are a lot of names mentioned here. While some like Sam Houston, Stephen Austen, and Jim Bowie are familiar, most of these individuals are pretty much unknown outside of the state. Fortunately, this doesn't slow the flow of the text too much and you can always skip over any parts where the cataloging of names becomes too onerous.
A
fter reading this book you will probably also have a greater understanding why, even today, the folks who live in Texas are so attached to their firearms. This is something ingrained in their culture.
