It introduces Paul's father Leto Atreides, and shows Prince Shaddam as he plots and kills to become the Padishah Emperor. Dune, House Atreides is the first in a series which adds to the epic. As such, it is a must read for fans of the Dune novels. Unfortunately, it also exaggerates the failings of the original: that is, cut-out characters and scientific and psychic miracles introduced to help along a stumbling plot.
