I
reviewed Hillary Bell Locke's first two books –
Remember Their Names
, and
Jail Coach
– and can recommend both as very good reads. Good characters and a plot that worked. A modicum of humor throughout helped to present the players as real people.
H
owever, I just finished reading Locke's
Collar Robber
featuring Jay Davidovich (brought forward from
Jail Coach
) and Cynthia Jakubek (from
Remember Their Names
), and cannot say the same about this one.
E
ach chapter leads off with one or another of the characters telling their part of the story. Maybe it's my age, but I had great trouble keeping straight who was talking. However, all of them seemed to keep their sense of humor intact, which helped.
J
ay is a Loss Prevention Specialist for an insurance company. Cynthia is now a lawyer with a big Wall Street firm. Jay and Cynthia are working together to prevent a couple of scam artists from bilking $50,000,000 from Jay's employer, Transoxana Insurance Company.
T
hey both work hard to prevent the scammers from realizing their goal – but several dead bodies in the picture have them thinking twice about catching up with the bad guys.
I
t's a good plot but a little too sophisticated for me. Again, I had trouble keeping up with who was saying what. And oh, yes, you'll have to read the book to discover what a
collar robber
is.
