N
iall Leonard continues his series for older teens (and adult mystery readers) that began with
Crusher
and continued in
Incinerator
. It just keeps on getting better.
T
he series protagonist is the dyslexic yet very enterprising young Finn '
Crusher
' Maguire. In the first episode, he was suspected of his beloved father's murder. He was betrayed by the mother who had deserted them years before and also by teen Zoe. He met a crime boss, the
Guvnor
, uncovered a ring of sex traffickers, and inherited a small fortune.
I
n the second episode he was betrayed by his lawyer (notice a theme here?), and helped by Zoe, for whom he still cares deeply. He survived multiple arson attempts, turned up a human trafficking ring, and met the man in charge, the
Turk
, who threatened Zoe and demanded that Finn arrange a meeting for him with the
Guvnor
.
A
s
Shredder
opens, Finn warns Zoe of the danger she's in and they consult the only cop Finn trusts - Amobi who's with the National Crime Agency. He puts Zoe in protective custody, while Finn seeks out the Guvnor and arranges the meet. It's a massacre, but not of the Turk's forces. The Guvnor keeps Finn close.
M
eanwhile someone is leaking information on terrorist plans to the authorities. Zoe is endangered once more and betrayals continue like a falling pile of dominoes. Finn finds a bomb factory, starts a riot, blackmails the authorities, and heads for Spain and a violent grand finale. And he's offered a job.
T
he series is gripping, fast-paced, with constant action and surprises - and betrayals - around every corner. I can't wait for more!
