ristin Masterwood's father has just been hired to clear the remnants of Foxworth Hall, the mansion where the Dollanganger children were held captive for years. The teenager does not know much about the mansion ... her father has told her it is off limits to her, a forbidden place to visit.

ristin's mother, who passed away, was related to the infamous family. Their history is Kristin's too, one that she has not been privy to, until now. Visiting her dad's work site, Kristin finds buried treasure among the rubble, Christopher Dollanganger's diary.
A
gainst her father's wishes, Kristin becomes absorbed in the diary to the extent that she becomes obsessed with it. At what point does the girl's obsession cross the line and become dangerous? What secrets does the diary contain and what is it that her father does not want her know?
I
found this novel, written from Kristin's point of view and Christopher's diary entries, to be all-consuming. I was so taken with the story that I did not put it down. Another aspect that I appreciate is that I had no trouble following the story even though I have never read any of the Dollanganger series. Avid fans will be pleased to know that early in the new year, Lifetime Television will be airing movies of books three and four!
