P
atricia Cornwell has done it once again. Added another winner to her long list of winners –
Flesh and Blood
is number twenty-two in her Kay Scarpetta series.
K
ay and her husband Benton Wesley were to head to Miami for a well-deserved few days in the surf and sun to celebrate Kay's birthday. But, as in the life of most of us, plans go oft astray.
A
music teacher has been shot unloading groceries from his car. Kay is called to officiate at the crime scene. It seems as though there might be a serial shooter. Other victims have been shot, probably by a sniper. The strikes have been widely separated. New Jersey, Massachusetts, South Florida. But the evidence supports the theory that all were shot by the same person.
W
hile investigating, Kay finds evidence which points to her niece Lucy. Lucy has her own helicopter, a Ferrari, and a mind of her own. She's brilliant, but definitely her own woman.
F
lesh and Blood
focuses on the bullets that killed the victims. Apart from identifying the weapon and the shooter, the thought uppermost in Kay's mind is why? Does the motivation have anything to do with her personally? If so, what?
I
t's another brain twister. I never came up with the culprit or the purpose of the shootings.
Flesh and Blood
is another good mystery by a New York Times bestselling author, winner of the Sherlock Award for the best detective created by an American author.
