Hurricane Fever is the second in Tobias S. Buckell's exciting near future environmental thriller series that began with Arctic Rising. This time he takes readers to warmer climes and brings back as lead Caribbean intelligence operative Prudence 'Roo' Jones, whose home island was engulfed by rising waters and who had a key role in the previous novel.

Roo has retired from his previous work and roams the Caribbean alongside his orphaned nephew Delroy - until trouble comes seeking them along with high winds. As Tropical Storm Makila builds power, he receives a message from his old friend and fellow operative Zee (now deceased), requesting a favor. Roo heads to Tortola to find what Zee has left for him there and to seek revenge for his friend's death.

Digging through the data Zee left for him, Roo finds a lot of information on 'privately owned space launch programs' in the Caribbean, as well as 'radiation dispersal' - what is that all about? He's approached by a sad, green eyed woman who claims to be Zee's sister Kit. She's been told that Zee died of 'hemorrhagic fever' but doesn't believe it and works with Roo to find out what really happened.

Soon they're engulfed in a maelstrom of violence, both natural and man-made, and Roo's thirst for revenge escalates to the point that he is unstoppable. Kit keeps her own secrets, while Roo on a mission is a force of nature himself. They go up against neo-Nazis and a madman's vile plot to change the world, all in the eye of the hurricane. Highly recommended!
