Nancy Thayer wries heartwarming novels, set on Nantucket. They are wise, sentimental and often humorous, and this small holiday offering, An Island Christmas blends all three beautifully.

We see events through the eyes of Jilly, a rabid perfectionist, happily married to George and with two grown daughters. Lauren, the eldest and very like her mother, is married to Porter and they have two small children. Tomboy Felicia is her total opposite. Jilly loves them equally but has trouble understanding Felicia, who leads whitewater rafting tours and is engaged to rugged outdoorsman Archie.

Now, all the family is descending on Jilly, not only for the holidays, but for Felicia's Christmas wedding. Though busy with preparations, Jilly still hopes to change Felicia's mind - the boy next door, Steven, is back on the island and would surely be a much more suitable match! They'd stay on Nantucket and Jilly wouldn't have to worry that Felicia would 'give birth in a yurt in the Gobi Desert, attended by two Mongolians and a goat.'

Hilarity reigns in this comedy of errors, as everything that could go awry does, starting with Jilly's acquisition of a lively feline that George names Rex. But, of course we know that all will be well that ends well for this enchanting cast of characters.
