Phantom Limb by Dennis Palumbo is the fourth in his Daniel Rinaldi mystery series. Daniel is a clinical psychologist who has taken on a new client. Lisa has promised him that she will not commit suicide before she talks to him about doing herself in, no matter where or when. She has the means and motivation to kill herself. Before she can accomplish what she has in mind, however, she is kidnapped as she leaves his office.

She is a likely candidate for kidnapping as she is an ex-actress of B movies and the wife of an extraordinarily rich man who can easily afford the five million dollar ransom demanded for her safe return. When the first drop-off goes wrong, the ante is upped another five million. In the meantime, Daniel is caught up in helping the brother of a friend who is coping with the loss of a leg in Iraq. That gets complicated and he is torn in two different directions.

Phantom Limb starts off with action, which continues to run through the whole book at breakneck speed. The author must be panting from the exertion of his protagonist. Make sure you have time for this one. It's a winner.
