eath Is Like a Box of Chocolates
by Kathy Aarons is a delight of a read. A chocolate delight. It's a fun read filled with delicious recipes for making chocolate candy, that will make you drool.
H
owever the main thrust of the mystery is the death of Main Street's portrait photographer. The corpse is found in Michelle Serrano and Erica Russell's joint store/shop. The two started their venture by combining their businesses – a bookstore and a chocolate shop – into a good start with a good future.
T
he two friends are hosting a first-time-ever Great Fudge Cook-off and the last thing they need is a dead body, with chocolate froth erupting from her lips, on a couch in their establishment. She had eaten Michelle's signature truffle, no less.
E
verything starts to fall apart. Orders are canceled. Store sales are off. Michelle's whole store of handmade chocolates must be thrown away and remade. The chocolate shop is broken into and trashed. Michelle does take the time to name many of the luscious chocolates that are made in the store, including X-rated ones created for a bridal shower (use your imagination here).
A
long with the Cook-off, the whole business section of town is gearing up for more business than usual. What seems to be a murder is putting a stain on the town and it looks as though potential customers will be staying away in droves.
I
enjoyed this one very much. Happily this is the first in a new series so we should be seeing more of Michelle and Erica. And of the chocolates.
