Jo Donovan is the widow of renowned novelist Hugh Donovan and is one of the most successful literary agents in the business. Recovering from her husband's death three years prior, she realizes that she is being stalked by someone she has nicknamed Sam Spade. He is persistent in his desire to have her read his manuscript, which he claims will sweep the publishing world.

Sam Spade feels that, while his work had been rejected by the agency, if only she would read it (rather than one of her staff), she would see what he's trying to make her understand. She disagrees. But that doesn't make him go away.

Then bad things begin to happen. Her client file is hacked and cruel emails sent to her authors. A dear, old friend is murdered. Jo is beginning to think the person who is determined to deliver a message could be Sam Spade or possibly even someone in her office!

A Dangerous Fiction is not the kind of book that can be picked up at odd moments to read a few pages. Once you get past the first page, you will be hooked. The suspense wraps around the reader and demands attention. The frustration that Jo must have been feeling rubs off. The thought of catching this miserable person who is causing so much havoc keeps readers on alert.

Fairness doesn't seem to be a part of Jo's life. She finds out some things about herself that she was never aware of. Not really good things but enough to make her take blame for that which she had no hand in. The reader has to take in account Jo's wonderful sense of humor that probably keeps her upright.

This is a very good beach read. Don't miss A Dangerous Fiction by Barbara Rogan.
