Quite complete and very readable, this program for health welds building body muscle and removing fat. For serious health and wellness advocates, the book serves as a guide that covers most areas. Venuto starts from the beginning with mind training and goals and debunks all sorts of myths as he goes. You need calories and carbs. What you need are the correct calories and carbs plus the right proteins in the right proportions.

A healthier, leaner lifestyle is simple, he says, but not easy. There is no quick fix. This is why diets never work. Dieters go back to their old ways of eating and living and regain old weight. Rather, make measured, specific changes to mindset, food consumption, exercise regimens, and plan your lifestyle.

Eat protein with every meal and consume lots of water. Among the terrible twelve are French fries, ice cream, pastries, and candy. The terrific twelve include fresh fruit, fresh veggies, oatmeal, and beans. Meat is lean meat and never fried. Add to that cardio training, which he describes as any rhythmic exercise of large muscles that increases heart rate and breathing.

A big concern is weight loss plateaus. They are very normal and very frustrating. When you hit one, he says, give your body a rest, and allow it time to adjust to its new metabolic rate. Then jump start it again with increased exercise and more protein. This is a program used by body builders and professional athletes. It can be yours as well.
