If you are a James Bond fan, you will remember that Raymond Benson took up the flag to continue the series when Ian Fleming died.

But did you know that Raymond Benson also writes The Black Stiletto books? This latest (the fourth in this intriguing series) is subtitled Secrets & Lies. It takes place in 1961 as well as today. June, the Black Stiletto, continues writing in her diary but moved from New York to Los Angeles where she found the police more receptive to her crime fighting.

In the present day, she is confined to a nursing home where she suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Her children have been reading her diaries and were dumbfounded to realize the life their mother led before they were born. They are into the fourth diary and there seems to be no mention of who their father was - or is.

We do get to accompany June several times as she takes to the streets in her costume in the 60s. Crime obviously offended her and she decided to do something about it. She was very successful in her endeavors.

It's a breath of fresh air to have a superhero depicted as a woman. It's also a fun idea that Benson plays liberally with as he draws us into his web of crime fighting. The big question now is – will the fifth and final diary disclose the identity of the father of the Black Stiletto's children?

This is a fun series which unfortunately didn't pull me into the story as much as I would have liked. I think I needed more descriptive phrases so I could imagine the scenes.
