The motivation? His wife's suicide! He occasionally takes a small-town case. He wasn't looking for Picasso to show up on his doorstep asking him to solve his mother's murder eight years before. Picasso, of course, isn't the internationally known artist. He's a down-on-his-luck kid with an astonishing talent. He gets by painting murals. A street kid! Go figure. Anna, a doctor at a health clinic in Old Town Portland, commissioned him to do a wall in that facility. Before the mural can be completed, Picasso is accused of murdering a major business figure. Picasso's life goes from bad to worse. As does Cal's. He has faith in the kid but butts heads with the police, the media, and some very important and powerful citizens. Is Picasso being framed? And does it have anything to do with his mother's murder? You must read Matters of Doubt by Warren C. Easley to discover what really happened. This is one book you will not want to put down. Wonderfully written. Lots of twists and turns that lead to the conclusion. This is the first of the Cal Claxton Oregon Mysteries. I look forward to the next one and the one after that.
