P
lanes, Trains, and Auto-Rickshaws
offers a look at the different people and places that form modern India. While it mainly reads as a travel guide, Laura Pedersen does let her dry humor shine through in plenty of places, making her perspective more entertaining than many travel guides.
T
he volume is well-written and extremely informative. However, it was not quite what I expected from Pedersen. I anticipated witty essays involving her personal experiences on the subcontinent, especially based on the personal nature of the first chapter; instead, it is much more a strict guide to modern India.

owever,
Planes, Trains, and Auto-Rickshaws
is still a great book if you are looking to learn more about India today.
