cKenna Jordan, a journalist for New York City magazine, is covering the story of a woman who rescued a teenager after he had fallen on the subway tracks. Instead of waiting around for accolades, the woman ran away. McKenna, after viewing a short video of the incident, is sure the unidentified woman is Susan, a very close friend who disappeared ten years before.

round the same time, McKenna ruined a cop's and her own career in the DA's office by asserting a certain police officer was dirty. Now she is married to Patrick who was introduced to her ten years ago by Susan. She confers with Patrick about her belief that her friend is not dead but has reappeared in New York. Patrick is worried that McKenna is becoming paranoid once again.

hat should have been just another story to be approved by her editor, launches McKenna on a journey to find her friend and discover why she abandoned her old life. The trail is twisted, convoluted, and so intriguing. As well as very dangerous.
